Mission

The Brotherhood of São Torcato is a public association of faithful of the Catholic Church, erected as canonical juridical person in 1963 by Archbishop Primaz.

With registered office in the Shrine of São Torcato, located at São Torcato Parish, at Guimarães’ county and Braga’s archdiocese, it has as main values of its mission the practice of cult acts in harmony with the liturgical and canonical norms existent in this religious centre of piety and catholic faith that is the Shrine of São Torcato, promoting, in particular and in due form, the cult to São Torcato. In this sense, it competes in a very special form to the moral perfection of all the faithful, especially of its Brothers, by the imitation of the virtues of its Patron Saint – the Saint of the People -, and also by contributing to the evangelization of the people of God.
Fulfilling this goal, the Brotherhood also collaborates in the cultural and social activities of the territory in which it is, namely in areas of Social Solidarity, in harmony of its possibilities, having in the history of its mission a strong effort and spirit of human, Cristian and social solidarity, considering the real needs of the parishes and surrounding parish communities. In this context, it provides services for the subsistence of the most need, cooperating with competent public services or with private institutions, promoting the life quality and providing reception conditions and permanent services that are suitable to the biopsychosocial problem of the most vulnerable people.
